STEP (Shingirirai Trust Empowerment Program) is a comprehensive grassroots empowerment program developed by psychosocial and Africa development expert Mel O’Gorman. Its unique and ambitious vision starts by creating an individual, inner shift in self-esteem that radiates out in successive ‘waves’ of far-reaching change:

Level 1: Teaching and sharing practical life and business skills creates a team consciousness, replacing attitudes of competition with co-operation.
Level 2: As skills are acquired and taught, interaction and increasing feelings of empowerment strengthen the sense of a community organisation.
Level 3: The community reaches out to similar communities in Zimbabwe, applying their practical skills and experience to help them regenerate.
Level 4: Regenerating communities reach out further, to other challenged communities throughout Africa, adapting their knowledge and skills to create a positive difference for them.
Level 5: Ultimately, the STEP model is carried by empowered communities to others needing help, in any country in the developing world.
The STEP process is an exciting model for sustainable, self-sufficient community healing and development. Your support and involvement can help the vision become a reality – communities in which hope, health and a say in their own future are no longer a distant dream. Thank you for helping the Shingirirai Women take the next STEP – and the next!
